Tanarimba is the answer to a question most Janda Baik visitors do not realise they are asking: why do so many of the high-end Airbnb villas list a "Jalan Tanarimba" address?
It is a 7,299-acre gated nature development on the Bukit Tinggi side of the Pahang foothills, marketed for decades as Malaysia's lowest-density forest community. The properties inside are individually owned, and a small number of them take overnight rentals — which is why Tanarimba shows up repeatedly in Airbnb searches for "Janda Baik villa".
This page exists because the search results for "Tanarimba Janda Baik" are dominated by real estate listings and wedding venue pages. There was no travel-side explanation of what Tanarimba actually is, who is allowed inside, and what staying there looks like.
What Tanarimba Actually Is
Tanarimba is a private, gated, low-density residential development inside the larger Janda Baik / Bukit Tinggi valley. About 7,299 acres in total — substantially larger than the typical Malaysian gated estate, with most of the land kept as forest. Lots are large, building footprints are restricted, and houses are spaced out across the ridges and stream valleys.
It is not a hotel development and it is not a resort. There is no central check-in, no restaurant open to the public, no in-room service. What is inside Tanarimba is private homes — some occupied by their owners, some rented out as whole-villa stays, and a handful of properties licensed as event venues (predominantly weddings).
Access is controlled at a manned gatehouse. Confirmed guests of villas inside have their names pre-cleared by their host. Wedding guests are cleared via the event coordinator. There is no walk-in access for sightseers.
Where Tanarimba Sits Geographically
Tanarimba is technically inside the Bukit Tinggi region of Pahang, but every major travel platform — Trip.com, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Airbnb — tags the properties inside it as "Janda Baik". From a trip-planning perspective, treat it as part of the wider Janda Baik valley. The road network, the local food scene, the waterfalls, and the village centre are all the same.
From central Kuala Lumpur, the drive is roughly 50–60 minutes via the Karak Highway, taking the Bentong / Janda Baik exit. From the exit, expect another 10–15 minutes on winding upland roads to reach the Tanarimba gatehouse. Mobile signal is patchy on the inside roads — download offline maps before you arrive.

A small number of privately-owned villas inside Tanarimba take overnight bookings. The two with active public listings are below. Both are whole-villa rentals — you book the entire house, not a room.
Glass House @ 325
Address: 325 Jalan Tanarimba Sumsum · 4 bedrooms · 4,000 sqft · private pool
Whole-villa rental for 8–12 pax. Glass-walled architecture, four bedrooms, private pool, full kitchen. Bookable on Airbnb or direct via Facebook. Best for multi-gen family weekends and extended-family reunions.
Two distinct properties in Janda Baik use the "Glass House" name — Glass House @ 325 (this one) and Villa Nadiah Glasshouse via iohome.my (a separate property). Confirm which one you are booking.
Twinkle Villa
Address: Lot 350 Lorong Sum Sum · 4 separate houses · sleeps ~25 across the cluster
Cluster of four kampung-style wooden houses named after rainforest trees — Cengal (sleeps 9), Gaharu (sleeps 8), Resak (sleeps 4), Meranti (sleeps 4). Walking distance between houses; upper-floor open-air bathrooms with jungle views. The whole cluster is bookable for private functions.
Direct rates are not published — booking is via the Facebook page (facebook.com/twinklejandabaik). No central booking platform listing found.
Other Tanarimba villas: A small number of additional privately-owned villas inside Tanarimba (including some referenced on Airbnb as "Sum Sum" properties) appear and disappear from listing platforms depending on owner preference. If you find a Janda Baik villa with a "Jalan Tanarimba" address, it is inside the development — same gatehouse, same access rules.
Weddings at Tanarimba — What to Expect
Tanarimba is one of the better-known Malaysian destination wedding venues — the appeal is the forest setting, the low-density privacy, and the gated control over guest access. A handful of properties inside the development are licensed for events; the rest are private homes.
On price: Tanarimba wedding venues sit at the upper end of the Janda Baik market. Historically, intimate ceremony packages have started in the low five figures (Malaysian Ringgit), and full-day receptions with catering, decoration, and accommodation have run into the mid-to-high five figures. Confirm current rates directly with the venue operator — package pricing changes yearly and any number we published here would go stale within months.
What does not vary as much: the practical realities. The gated access controls guest list size at the gatehouse, mobile signal can be patchy in low spots, the drive in from KL is comfortable but not ten minutes, and the weather is upland — bring a contingency plan for afternoon rain even in the dry months.
We do not currently publish a venue-by-venue comparison because the venue mix inside Tanarimba shifts year to year — operators come and go. If we add a comparison page in the future it will live at /area/tanarimba/weddings.
